• Originally founded in 1921 as the Richmond Transfer & Storage Company, American VanPac Carriers Inc. has over eight decade's of moving and storage experience. California experienced rapid growth in all sectors of its economy due to World War II, particularly the San Francisco Bay area. In 1939, for example, California had considerable fewer than 20,000 aircraft production workers. By 1943 this number had grown to 243,000. The ship building industry experienced similar growth. From a mere 4,000 jobs in 1939, this industry grew to a wartime peak of over 282,000 workers.
  
  This wartime growth also brought hundreds of thousands military personnel to California and the other Western states, and the Richmond Transfer & Storage Company was here to help these industries and military move personnel and materials. In 1955, Vanpac Carriers, Inc. was founded to introduce the Thru-Container Bill of Lading, and the Single Rate concept for the shipment of household effects. These moving and shipping innovations were conceived, developed, and promoted exclusively by the management team at Vanpac Carriers, Inc. and has since become the industry standard.
  
  This system is now known as the Thru-Container or Door-to-Door service, and within five years it had captured over 90 percent of all household goods shipments moving internationally. American VanPac Carriers Inc. is the recognized leader of this new dynamic industry. In the past two years, Vanpac has moved in excess of 10,000 household goods shipments. American VanPac Carriers Inc. has offices and port facilities in Houston, the United Kingdom, and Singapore, in addition to maintaining a network of 375 international agents and 275 domestic agents.
