Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), UET, Lahore, is setting up a High Performance Computing and Communication (HPCC) laboratory, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art multi-core processors based systems and 1/10 Gbps high-speed networking gear. This facility will be developed and operated with the collaboration of Cisco Systems (Pakistan). This facility will be the first of its kind in Pakistan to conduct cutting-edge research and development. It will address performance engineering challenges due to: (1) growing disparities among processor, memory, and I/O subsystem performance; (2) increasing number of cores on chip multiprocessors; and (3) distributed service oriented architectures with high-speed networks. This facility presents an unparalleled work environment for hands-on learning and innovations to push the envelope of performance engineering. This work environment is unlike a typical software house in Pakistan where same skills are used repeatedly for technically undemanding projects. We believe that such environments diminish the learning and innovation potential and cannot stimulate leading-edge development. Develop open-source performance engineering tools to measure the performance and scalability of multi-core systems for 1/10 Gpbs networks. These tools will characterize the performance of multi-core processors, memory subsystem, I/O devices, operating system services, system software, and carefully selected mix of applications. Right candidate for this position should have the understanding of characterizing appropriate workloads and analyzing scalability across a variety of hardware and software platforms. He/She is expected to develop sound methodologies for accurate performance measurements, comparisons, as well as studying workload characteristics to create a balanced suite of performance workloads for multi-core processors based systems connected through high-speed networks.
BSc/ MS in Computer Science, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
2+ years of experience in systems software development.
Experience with industry standard software development environments and processes, is desired.
Experience of software development on Linux and Windows environment.
Strong command in C, C++ and Java.
Understanding of computer architecture will be a strong plus.
Understanding of computer networks and network programming is desirable.
Experience with development tools like VC++, Eclipse etc.
Experience in developing GUIs and library tools.
Must have completed at least one Industrial/Commercial level project through all phases of development.
