Job Overview:
Our client is currently seeking for an experienced Senior Process & Design Engineer with deep expertise in water and wastewater treatment to join our team in South Africa. This is a senior technical role ideal for a highly skilled engineer with strong design, process, and project experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BSc, BEng in Chemical Engineering A Master’s or Ph degree will be a distinct advantage. Electrical (Light current), Electronic (ECI) or Mechanical Engineering will be considered with relevant process design experience.
- 10+ years’ proven experience in water & wastewater treatment
- Extensive experience across varied treatment technologies and project types
- Strong skills in PFDs, P&IDs, CAD design, and process optimisation
- Experience across full project lifecycle (design → construction → commissioning)
- Proficiency in tools such as MS Project, Visio, CAD(AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Solidworks), WAVE or other modelling software.
Project Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review PFDs, P&IDs, design reports, calculations, and specifications
- Support tender preparation, technical clarifications, and vendor coordination
- Assist in construction, commissioning, and technical site support
- Participate in design reviews and multidisciplinary project coordination
- Build a competent project team including application and design engineers, and construction managers.
Key Competencies:
- Strong understanding of filtration, chemical dosing, membranes (RO/UF/NF), MBR, activated sludge, and sludge handling
- Specific strength in anaerobic design (such as UASB technology) and build experience will be an advantage
- Ability to integrate process, mechanical, civil, and electrical design elements
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Leadership capability in a senior technical role
