Overview:

The Women Medical Officer (WMO) will provide clinical care to female patients in OPD, wards and the labour ward. The role requires independent management of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal patients, leadership in the labour ward, timely escalation of maternal/fetal concerns and participation in clinical governance and teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Provide medical care and consultation to female patients in OPD and wards.
• Independently manage antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal patients.
• Lead and make senior clinical decisions in the labour ward.
• Interpret CTG traces and escalate fetal/maternal concerns promptly.
• Manage obstetric emergencies (PPH, eclampsia, sepsis, shoulder dystocia).
• Perform obstetric procedures and emergency interventions independently.
• Perform relevant surgical procedures (abdominal hysterectomy, laparotomy for ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cystectomy) as required.
• Manage acute gynecological emergencies.
• Conduct risk assessment and practice with patient safety focus.
• Participate in clinical audits, research projects and implement evidence-based guidelines.
• Teach and supervise junior doctors and medical students; work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Provide effective patient counselling and shared decision-making; maintain accurate clinical documentation.
• Use electronic health records and MS Office for clinical documentation and reporting.
