Computer Operator / Stenographer

1. Initializes computer with required system software and operates computer system as directed.
2. Monitors computer and network systems using operating systems utilities; interprets console messages from system software or applications program, and performs required actions.
3. Performs daily backup of systems.
4. Handles input and output media with due care for integrity of data and utility of media for subsequent use.
5. Maintains records required to supplement console log, including problem documentation and actions taken, computer utilization logs, file identification, and similar data.
6. Researches error messages and manipulates console to resequence job steps after a job is interrupted.
7. May instruct and oversee the activities of student employees performing the same type of work.
8. Performs problem reporting and assistance on various systems for departmental users.
9. Maintains applicable records including user lists and equipment inventories.
10. Works on weekend and/or shift rotation schedules.
11. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
