Job Description
1. Convert written material from 'source language' English into the 'target language' Urdu ensuring that the translated version conveys the meaning of the original as clearly as possible.
2. Transcreate where appropriate.
3. Work on commercial; educational; legal; literary; scientific; and technical documents.
4. Read through original material and rewrite it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained;
5. Ensure consistency of translation within documents and help efficiency
6. Use specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used;
7. Research legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation;
8. Proofread and edit final translated versions; providing a grammatically correct, well-expressed final version of the translated text;
9. Use the internet and email as research tools throughout the translation process;
10. Prioritize work to meet deadlines;
11. Retain and develop knowledge on specialist areas of translation;
12. Follow various translation-quality standards to ensure legal and ethical obligations.
Job Specification
The applicant needs to show evidence of the following:
1. fluency in English and Urdu;
2. A good understanding and in-depth knowledge of language/country-specific cultures, known as localisation;
3. Subject matter knowledge;
4. Excellent writing skills and command of grammar;
5. Attention to detail combined with the ability to work quickly to meet deadlines;
6. Knowledge of translation-oriented applications and software is helpful, though not essential;
7. Self-motivation;
8. Eagerness to acquire new knowledge.
