Job Description
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Visually inspects and uses vibration analysis equipment at periodic intervals and condition monitoring to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
- Perform machine work, pipe fitting, plumbing, PVC welding, turbine, boiler compressors and auxiliary equipment repair.
- Assembles, overhauls and reassembles operating parts of turbine, boilers, pumps, fans, water treatment plant, fire fighting equipment, diesel purifier, air and gas compressors and other auxiliary equipment.
- Uses hand and mechanical tools in repairing and maintaining turbine, boiler and compressor parts, valves, fans, pumps and other plant machinery and equipment.
- Cleans, lubricates and paints plant equipment and buildings
- Performs general carpentry and welding jobs in the alteration, repair and maintenance of plant equipment and plant buildings.
- Operates overhead cranes, light vehicles and fork lifts.
- Perform machinery alignments
- Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, and cleaning or replacing other component parts as required.
- Records maintenance actions taken on work order forms.
- Interprets specifications, blue prints and job orders.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.
- Works with the operational staff to test equipment performance.
- Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other tools to make and repair parts.
- Operates welding/cutting equipment and completes metal fabrication projects.
- Diagnoses cause of mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment.
- Initiates purchase order for parts.
- Reads and understands technical manuals and system piping and instrumentation diagrams.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance in accordance with technical manual procedures.
- Prepares legible and understandable work orders for required preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Reads, understands, and complies with all plant safety and regulatory procedures.
- Understand OH&S risks / hazards and environmental /legislative aspect/ impacts related to work activities.
Non-essential duties and responsibilities:
- Monitors inventory levels and reorder all consumable parts.
- Preserves and cleans the feed water pumps, condensate pumps, wastewater and oily waste storage and air compressors.
- Maintains and reorders as necessary all shop tools.
- Maintains all welding equipment.
- Preserves and cleans the gas compressors, maintenance shop and boiler lower level.
Job Specification
Associate's degree in Mechanical or equivalent from two year college or technical school
