Job Description

Introduction

You will be accountable for leadership, management and oversight of the CECD. You will be expected to oversee social, academic and emotional development of the children and to provide exemplary care, safety and protection & learning experiences, by building bridges with parents, teachers, and support staff.

You will also be expected to work on strategic, programme and resource planning, staff development and contribution of the CECD to the University’s early child development objectives.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities would include, but not limited to;

Provide Leadership for Care, Development and Learning

Work with Curriculum and Programme Committee on curriculum enhancement.

Monitor and support daily routine activities of care, learning and development; provide curriculum materials that are developmentally appropriate and provide resources for theme-related lesson plans.

Monitor curriculum policies and classroom setups.

Encourage and facilitate opportunities for staff education and trainings.

Supervise, guide and coach staff.

Develop short and medium term plans for the CECD and participate in the strategic planning of the University.

Identify the needs as well as analyze the internal and external environment.

Develop SMART short and medium term plans including the resources needed to execute the plan.

Contribute in the strategic planning of the University.

Implement plans that are developed through various strategies.

Assist in establishing and monitoring various planning parameters for effective resolution.

Develop and monitor budgets for the department.

Professional Responsibilities

Maintain a professional appearance and promote the appropriate image and reputation; provide general direction and oversight to all programs.

Have professional communication, problem identification and resolution with staff and parents.

Maintain CECD’s hygiene, safety and security and enhance physical spaces to cater to the growth, development and learning needs of children.

Enhancing and monitoring policies and procedures.

Purchasing of materials and renovations of facility.

Health, hygiene, safety and risk mitigation initiatives.

Ensure strong partnership of parents, staff and children for children’s optimal development through regular communication and programmes

Communicate with and provide effective feedback to parents.

Work to build positive relationships with, parents, staff and children.

Ensure that practitioners handle discipline promptly as outlined in the parent handbook and communicate with parents on each child’s progress and discipline.

Actively arrange and facilitate Parent meetings and workshops.

Parent-child activity sessions

On-going Initiatives for parents to support their child’s development.

Develop staff knowledge and competencies in early childhood practice for children’s growth, development and learning.

Encourage and facilitate staff to increase educational qualifications.

Arrange relevant trainings by early childhood experts from the University’s Faculty.

Identify opportunities for staff to avail professional development opportunities within AKU, AKDN and external institutions.

Encourage, train and mentor staff for continuing professional development.

Job Specification

Requirements

Master’s degree in Education,Psychology or other relevant field with additional early childhood qualifications such as an Advanced Diploma in (Early) Human Development, Montessori Diploma, Certificate in ECED.

Minimum 7 to 10 years’ experience in an early care/day care centre, pre-primary, early primary or similar environment including 3 to 4 years in a managerial role.

Have a passion for working with children as well as strong leadership skills.

Business management – Knowhow of all aspects of facilities, from systems to overseeing the program’s budget.

Knowledge of theory, practice and research to support early child development care and learning.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to describe complex ideas in clear and meaningful forms and to present data and information to various audiences.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with an analytic approach.

Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams individually and collectively.

Advocate and commit to ongoing training and development to foster a learning culture within the department.

Cultural sensitivity for effective work in different national and international environments.

Well versed with relevant legislation, policies and procedures to ensure that children are supervised and safe at all times.

Ability to work with budgets, variance reports and other financial reports.
