What is Head of Litigation?
Head of Litigation leads countrywide litigation, including regulatory litigation and strategy, matters in the domain of Legal Affairs by providing guidance and advice to the team in prosecuting or defending lawsuits. The role is responsible for providing advice to Senior Management on policy implementation to mitigate risk of legal and regulatory litigations. It will also be responsible to develop and implement a strategy for Data Privacy in the light of VEON’s Data Protection Policy.
The role reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer and has 02 people reporting directly into it with an extended team of 07 team members.
What does the Head of Litigation do?
Formulates litigation strategy in order to regulate processes of litigation cases and manage court advocacy.
Identifies legal solutions to settle disputes/cases through negotiations, arbitration, or mediation in order to resolve issues in an amicable way.
Oversees legal/ regulatory strategy for contentious or foreseeable contentious issues and lobby in relation to the drafting of relevant regulations.
Maintains proper corporate interactions with the regulatory bodies such as such as PTA, CCP, NEPRA, PEMRA, labor department etc.
Analyses features/changes in systems in the light of PTA rules and regulations and shares appropriate recommendations with senior management.
Develops response to show cause notices in critical cases and justifies stance of organization in hearings of regulatory authorities/LEAs.
Deals with legal allegations/complaints by vendors/customers and clarify organization’s stance in order to settle the dispute through negotiations/arbitration.
Build a strong relationship with all internal stakeholders and advise them on litigation issues.
Works closely with lawyers/counsels and guide them on litigation strategy and ways to deal with case preparation and documents/witness requirements.
Provide legal advice in tax matters as per FBR requirements and suggests measures accordingly to remain compliant.
Develops strategy to build strong Data Privacy Program. Reviews data protection policies and changes in VEON data protection policy and international standards in the light of the local context.

What are we looking for and what does it require to be Head of Litigation?
LLB with minimum 15 years of experience in regulatory affairs, litigation, and arbitration inclusive of 5 years of experience in a managerial capacity in the Telecom sector. IT audit-based courses/diplomas will be preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of telecom laws and regulations.
Knowledge of consumer/labor/civil/criminal Laws.
Detailed knowledge of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) & regulatory authorities practices & procedures.
Thorough knowledge of arbitration and courtroom advocacy dynamics.
Detailed knowledge of IT audit processes.
Practical knowledge of project management.
Strong communicator with the ability to negotiate and solve problems.
Proven track record of risk management and mitigation.
