Job Specification
The position of inventory auditor is employed by both large retail companies and independent inventory audit firms. The position is tasked with physically counting items and matching the physical count to the computer inventory. The auditor also performs a number of tasks related to inventory with the goal of keeping the computer system data accurate for the planning and forecasting groups. The auditor position reports to the audit supervisor. The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not classify internal auditor as a separate jobs, but the median annual salaries of stock clerks and shipping and receiving clerks, which perform similar duties, were between $20,000 and $28,000 as of May 2008.
