Objectives
• To analyze well completion data / reports / pre-feasibility of Radial Drilling Technology and of alternate lateral solutions, used to recover the pocket reservoirs.
• To perform SWOT analysis of alternate solutions based on pros / cons of the Radial Drilling Technology.
• To predict, on the basis of results and analysis, the future of Radial Drilling Technology in Pakistan as well as draft a set of recommendations in upcoming projects by the concerned company.
Background of RDT projects (Pakistan)
In 2010: A Pakistani company works with a Radial Drilling Service (RDS) Companyto carry 10 RD projects in different areas of province Sindh. In the next year, only 06 projects were carried out and all of them resulted in failure.
My findings & conclusion
There are two main reasons of unsuccessful results of RDT based project in Pakistan:
1. The tunnel collapse due to overburden pressure of formation
2. The formation damage due to blockage by solid particles in laterals
The diameter of the lateral should be doubled to the existing 2” in order to minimize, the impact of overburden pressure and chances of formation damage. Our SWOT analysis favors that instead of, stepping back to traditional drilling methods; the company should try with greater diameters or alternate to RDT, i.e., SEMJET.
