As Researcher - University of Management and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan
This project is based on a cost cutting strategy of low cost carriers (LCC) in terms of operating cost like fuel, aircraft acquisition, operation and services. The first chapter of this study is about the introduction of the infrastructure of aviation which gives the detail information that how airlines operate and what is the main difference between airlines providing normal fares and services and airlines providing low fares and omitted services. The second chapter revolves around the low cost carriers who excel in providing low fares and what are the strategies they use to reduce their cost in order to provide low cost fares to customer. This chapter gives in detail information about cost reduction of fleet acquisition, operations, and services. Fuel management is one of the aspect of cost reduction but this is not limited to low cost carriers only. Normal Airlines use the fuel management strategy as well to reduce cost and most of the time it is dependent on flight planning, loading and balancing, airport gate planning and reduction in irregular operations. (Fuel management, n.d.)The third chapter of this project is a comparative analysis of full services carrier and low cost carriers operating cost, profit and revenue. It shows the graphical illustration of both carriers to find out how the reduction in operating cost effect the revenue and profit. The fourth chapter is the conclusion which explains if low cost carriers can be launched in Pakistan and what are the strengths and weaknesses of low cost carriers.
