It is not easy being a woman anywhere in the world but it is tad more difficult than usual being a woman in Pakistan. For a woman in an unequal society, living life can sometimes feel like an exercise in navigating fear. A woman is not just a mother, wife, sister or daughter but she is a bountiful entity who can bear enormous pressure and still remain poised and grateful. Living anywhere is a little bit of a hindrance for a woman. From home to workplace everything is a whole new game for a woman.
Giving birth to a girl was considered burden but Islam has given them great place in society. Life of a teenager is hard right from the beginning. She is asked to be covered from head to toe. It has a lot to do with how she is brought up, she is told to be wary, to watch her back, to watch out for harassers and abusers. She has to build a strong character and maintain her respect in society. She is permitted to speak out for herself for her rights. She is restrained of going alone in market, laughing loudly, staying out late and being pushy in an argument. Being an elder sister, she has to build a bond of love, care and emotion with her siblings and she has to portray herself as a role model for younger siblings. Transition of girl from daughter into wife is full of responsibilities and has even more important role. She should have great mental strength and resilience. After getting married she should bring in warmth, understanding and balance in the family. Once she gives birth to a child then as a mother she finds changes in her physical stamina because giving birth may have sapped more of her energy. Being a mother, she should have competence of upbringing her children and make them a responsible person of our society. Any flaw in her responsibility is considered her major fault. She should also have ability to cook, work and nurture kids at the same time with efficiency. Most importantly, a woman after being a wife must learn to balance her role of wife and mother. She has to be alert to her husband’s as well as child’s needs so that everything moves smoothly.
In view of all the discussion above, all this happens mostly in lower middle-class society. Modern society also exists but they have adapted good thoughts regarding women. Now a days, everyone is educating their daughters but even then, in middle-class society they have somehow less exposure and due to their conservative minds women are not allowed to come forward.
Although women are the integral part of our society and phenomenal changes have taken place across the world, but the status and fate of women has not changed much. Though our women have great potential to play a multidimensional role from home to society to organization yet they are neglected.
