As parents, it is very important to communicate effectively and openly with our children as it strengthens our bond with them. The way parents communicate with their children can build or tear them down. So, by working for a strong relationship can create a greater impact in a child’s life as it can help in diminishing a lot of behavioral challenges.
Here are some ways to build a healthy and strong parent-child relationship.
- Unconditional love: show unconditional love to your children. Make them believe in themselves, no matter what they want to discuss, their parents should always be there for them for everything. Hug them every now and then. This will give boost to their confidence and self-esteem.
- Trust them: show faith and trust in them. Show that you believe in them, this makes them feel loved and supported. This will develop deep bond and they will feel more empowered.
- Praise their efforts: use encouraging terms for praising your children, this will act as a motivation for them to keep up the good work. Praise them for the little efforts they do right, as what you encourage will get instilled in their behavior over time.
- Spend quality time with your children: children need parent’s attention and time the most. Be available for them, talk to them about what’s happening in their lives. Learn about their likes, dislikes and interests. Share somelighter moments and laugh together creating great memories.
- Engage them in activities: involve them in activities like cleaning, cooking meals and house chores etc. as it fosters togetherness. Play with them like a child this will allow cooperation and strong bond. Encourage outdoor activities as this will help them get physically stronger.
- Restrict electronic gadgets: limit the screen timings for your children and yourself and pay attention to them. Keep your gadgets aside when interacting with them. This gesture depicts that they are most valued.
- Empathize with them: be more compassionate and empathetic towards your children. Help them vent out, express their emotions and feelings. This will help them confide in you even more.
- Respect them: they must be treated as individuals and their views and beliefs must be acknowledged as this will make them feel empowered and they will feel confident about themselves.
- Avoid negative communication: don’t criticize them unnecessarily or threat them in any way, or lie to your children as this will plant the seed of mistrust and low self-esteem in them.
