So it has been one of the most debatable topics of all time; that what is a healthy diet. That which one considers healthy, might be outrageously unhealthy to another. In the society, exists a combination of vegans, vegetarians, or omnivores; everyone tends to have their own set of beliefs and choices when it comes to the foods they prefer to eat. But the question is, what is actually healthy?
THE LAYMAN'S VIEW:
Most of our population is staunch in their views, if they think something is right, it will be right no matter how many proofs you give them against it. And food choices, are mostly inflexible. They like to eat what they do, and disapprove of anything not in accordance with their developed tastes. And that to them is healthy.
SOCIAL STANDING, COST & AVAILABILITY:
Our society is divided into the typical upper, middle, and lower class hierarchy. The food choices too, are dependant on the economic well-being of people. Those low in status, seldom get to eat meats, be it red or white, due to the high costs. They mostly eat grains and pulses. The middle class gets all things in moderation. While the ones in upper strata have access to the right and the wrong things too. They are somewhat stuck with what they eat and what they dont due to their personal preferences.
THE DIETICIANS POINT OF VIEW:
Though new researches keep flowing each day, the common agreement among nutritionists is that everything should be taken in moderation. A healthy diet is one in which all food groups are incorporated in a healthy balance. Deficiency of any one of the macro or micro nutrients causes disease, which might just end up being fata,l in dire consequences, since all have their own funtions;
Carbohydrates- these are the primary energy molecules
Proteins- these are the basic building blocks of life
Fats- essential for organ cushioning and vitamin metabolism among other functions
Vitamins- vital to many bodily functions and metabolic regulators
Minerals- necessary for growth and fluid level maintenance
So by their importance, we can assume that it is crucial that we take all things in balanced amounts.
Conclusively, a healthy diet is one in which we do not deprive ourselves of anything in particular, eat everything at hand but just the correct portion size. Hence, appropriate portioning is the key to a healthy diet.
