Fresh graduates face an uphill task of facing and qualifying their first job interview. Nevertheless, they can significantly reduce the stress and do better by doing some homework in advance. These tips can help.
First, find out some information about the organization such as its profile, products & services, awards & achievements etc. Also discover what you will actually do? What sort of skill is required primarily? And what are the benefits and growth opportunities offered by the job? Remember, this initial research will give the interviewer a fair idea about your eagerness to join the organization.
It takes around 30 seconds for an interviewer to make her decision of a candidate selection or rejection. You never know where these 30 seconds precisely fall. It could be the initial moment when you enter the room and say greetings or the time when you respond the first question thrown at you. In short, every moment of your interview is crucial. The trick is to give 100 percent throughout the interview.
Arrive on time i.e. 20 to 30 minutes earlier than the interview starts. Through this approach, you make an impression of a punctual and organized person. It also saves you a few minutes to go to the restroom, and groom up yourself. Organizing staff also interacts with early birds and can give you a clue about the probable questions asked by the panel. Timely arrival also helps you complete all pre-interview formalities well in time, relax, and wait for your turn.
Put on a professional dress. For men, a matching two-piece suit with a plain shirt and a tie is suggested. Suit colors may fall between black, navy blue, charcoal, or grey. The shirt must be of light color such as white, off-white, light blue, etc. The tie knot should be a perfect triangle while at length its tip should touch the belt. The belt must match the shoes and should have a simple and decent buckle. Clean shave or trim your beard and make a haircut. Make sure your shoes are polished. Ladies should wear shalwar kameez with a scarf. The dress should never be too revealing. Also, high-heeled shoes, massive make-up, and bulky jewelry should be avoided.
Employers primarily expect confidence and assertiveness while recruiting fresh graduates. They don’t look for technical skills at this stage as it’s their headache to train you for the specific purpose at hand. So never get worried about the technical aspect of the job. Just be confident, keep your attitude as promising as you can, and work hard on the way you express yourself.
Finally, prepare a good answer to the famous question, why you want to join this organization. Now here, the interviewer expects to hear something amazing about their organization. You can say, I want to join this organization because it is one of the big five organizations or because of its high-class customer service, or you can mention the organization’s growth potential.
