Job Description

Role Summary:

PPF is looking for a committed Press Freedom Researcher to contribute to our team. This role is centered on conducting thorough research and analysis on issues affecting press freedom, documenting and investigating attacks on journalists and media professionals, and producing in-depth annual reports on press freedom. The ideal candidate will possess a solid research background, a comprehensive understanding of the challenges to press freedom, and a dedication to advocating for the rights of journalists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily monitoring and documentation of attacks on journalists and media professionals, including legal challenges, harassment, and violence.
  • Produce comprehensive annual press freedom reports, analyzing trends, challenges, and progress in press freedom within Pakistan.
  • Carry out specific research projects on press freedom, developing reports that shed light on pressing issues, provide in-depth analysis, and suggest actionable solutions.
  • Collaborate with advocacy teams to leverage research findings for campaigns and interventions aimed at bolstering press freedom and ensuring the safety of journalists.
  • Engage with journalists, media professionals, and partner organizations to collect data and insights for research purposes.
  • Arrange launch events for the release of reports, coordinating with relevant teams to ensure impactful presentations and broad dissemination of research findings to stakeholders, media, and the public to advocate for press freedom.
  • Keep abreast of global trends and issues related to press freedom, contributing to PPF's leadership in press freedom advocacy.

Job Specification

Qualifications:

  • Four-years Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Political Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in research, ideally within media, journalism, or human rights.
  • Demonstrated capability for qualitative and quantitative research with excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills, capable of producing clear, compelling reports.
  • Knowledgeable about the media landscape and press freedom challenges in Pakistan and internationally.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
