SHINE Humanity

Founded in 2009 by a group of Pakistani-American doctors and entrepreneurs based out of Tustin, California, SHINE Humanity was formed to repay the debt they owe to Pakistan. SHINE Humanity’s mission is to provide compassionate and sustainable preventative and primary healthcare to the underserved by collaborating with key partners.

SHINE Humanity Pakistan was registered under the Societies Act 1860 in 2013 to move the mission forward and implement it in Pakistan.

Since its founding, SHINE Humanity has been active in different parts of the world; at present, our area of concentration is rural Pakistan, where we have nine primary healthcare clinics providing free healthcare.

PRIMARY AND DIAGNOSTIC CARE AT SHINE HUMANITY

SHINE Humanity’s wide array of services include in-house and telemedicine consultations which allows patients in need of immediate care to get in touch with Emergency Medical Responders as soon as possible. We offer a variety of different types of lab tests (Diabetes, Malaria, Hepatitis, Spirometry), and imaging reports including ultrasounds. Patients in dire need for care are routinely followed up with at our clinics and efforts are made to completely eradicate their ailments.

SPIROMETRY

SHINE Humanity conducts spirometry tests as a frontline defense against Asthma and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) in rural and impoverished areas. SHINE aims to provide inhalers and life-saving medication and eventually replicate successful techniques and results to our other clinics across rural Pakistan.

THERAPEUTIC FOOD PROVISION

In collaboration with SHINE Humanity’s Community outreach program, the malnutrition program is responsible for identifying children suffering from malnutrition in rural and impoverished areas. Once identified, these children are treated in SHINE’s clinics using Ready to Use Therapeutic food and are kept under close observation.

RABIES

In SHINE Humanity’s established area of operations, dog encounters are a common occurrence. SHINE’s anti-rabies program aims to identify the causes for the rapid increase in dog bites and the most practical prevention and treatment measures. These measures include vaccination of stray dogs and increasing availability of treatment for bite victims.

SCREENING FOR DISEASE

A quality management system rigorously monitors the performance of our physicians, who are screened by trained and qualified staff before consulting them. To ensure proper diagnosis and treatment, each patient's medical records are maintained according to a custom protocol. SHINE Humanity’s efforts to digitize all patient data is a big step in aiding in screening for a variety of ailments, including;

VACCINATION OF DISEASES

SHINE Humanity provides vaccinations for a variety of illnesses that have been the most impactful in rural and underserved areas, such as Rabies, Malaria, Hepatitis-B, Hepatitis-C.

EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS

SHINE Humanity conducts virtual educational sessions led by qualified and accomplished medical professionals from the US and Pakistan. A recent successful educational session was a neonatal resuscitation workshop titled “Sunehra Lamha” which aimed to teach attendees techniques to support the lives of infants who are unable to breathe on their own. CLEAN WATER INITIATIVE

SHINE Humanity has installed 6 RO (Reverse Osmosis) plants in various locations in interior Sindh, including Ibrahim Hyderi, Sujawal and Mirpur Khaas. Our goal is to provide clean drinking water to rural communities through cooperation with local communities.

MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE

As part of our mental health program, which began in 2022, our medical officers and other allied health professionals were trained to recognize and treat mental health issues like anxiety and depression. There were efforts made to identify, diagnose, and treat more severe illnesses, such as schizophrenia by our medical officers.

PUBLIC HEALTH INTERNSHIP

Our public health internship program focuses on introducing the field of public health to students of various disciplines in Pakistan. Each month we take up 2 candidates from institutes around Karachi and broaden their perspective of medicine beyond diagnosis and treatment. The process involves programmatic proposal building, research writing workshops, public health in practice via community outreach and field visits to Sindh.
